First Presbyterian Nursery School

Pre-Kindergarten

The Pre-K Program is an option for children who would benefit from an extra year after the Four’s Program. It is a true Pre-Kindergarten program.

Pre-K is full of continuing the love of learning through play. Teachers focus on nurturing students’ social and emotional development through hands-on learning. The children have many “kindergarten-like” experiences such as Morning Message, Weekend News, Math explorations, Taking Data, rich literature, and individualized instruction.

All eight Connecticut Early Learning and Development Standards (CT ELDS) are addressed, all students are assessed, and instruction is targeted to their needs. Cognition, social/emotional growth, and physical development are woven into fun experimentation and exploration. Small group activities are held daily to help children thrive. Our language and literacy, creative arts, mathematics, science, and social studies curriculum ensures our students are well-prepared for kindergarten. The Wilson Foundation handwriting program continues to prepare our students to enter Kindergarten confidently. Students in the Pre-K Program have daily music classes and a dedicated weekly science program. They also use the most challenging parts of our integrated playground.
