Pre-Kindergarten

The Pre-K Program provides children with a strong foundation for kindergarten and beyond. Our thoughtfully designed program combines intentional instruction, hands-on learning, and purposeful play to help children develop the academic, social-emotional, and physical skills they need to enter kindergarten with confidence.

The Pre-K classroom environment introduces children to many of the routines, structures, and learning experiences they will encounter in kindergarten. Each day includes opportunities to practice listening, following directions, communicating ideas, working independently, and participating as a member of a classroom community. Experiences such as morning meeting and message, sharing weekend news, math investigations, data collection, rich literature experiences, small-group and one-on-one instruction help children become increasingly comfortable as learners.

Our curriculum addresses all eight Connecticut Early Learning and Development Standards (CT ELDS) and is intentionally designed to support the whole child. Teachers regularly observe and assess each student’s progress, using this information to individualize instruction and provide appropriate challenges and support. Children are encouraged to ask questions, make predictions, experiment, solve problems, and explain their thinking as they develop important skills in cognition, language, literacy, mathematics, social-emotional development, and physical development.

A comprehensive curriculum in language and literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, and creative arts provides children with opportunities to build knowledge and make meaningful connections across subject areas. The Wilson Fundations handwriting program further supports kindergarten readiness by strengthening letter formation, early writing skills, and foundational literacy concepts, including sight-word recognition.

Learning extends beyond the classroom through daily music, a dedicated weekly science class, and purposeful outdoor experiences. Our expansive playground gives children opportunities to challenge themselves physically, develop coordination and strength, practice spatial awareness, and build confidence.

By the end of the Pre-K year, children have developed greater independence, confidence, curiosity, and responsibility as learners. They leave our program with the academic foundation, learning habits, and social-emotional skills that help them transition successfully to kindergarten.

One 5-day option is available, Monday – Friday

Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, 9:00am – 12:00pm
